Retz - the wine town with a heart!
The historical wine town of Retz on the slopes of the Manhartsberg, holds countless art treasures and points of interest. The massive main square with its magnificent bourgeois houses and wealth of shops tempt you to linger. Steeped in this old-world atmosphere, the visitor will find much to attract him behind the house fronts.
There are lots of speciality food shops to feed the inner person, and if you can't get enough of the local wine here is the chance to stock up your cellar.
Austria's only remaining working windmill is even more famous than Retz's other jewels like the town hall, the Sgraffito-house or the Dominican church.
The wine town offers a particular attraction in the form of a walk through the town's historic wine cellars. The widely branching labyrinth has recently become even more attractive, with parts of it being transformed into an amusement cellar - with plenty of surprises in store!
Sport lovers will find plenty of appeal with marked hiking trails, an interpretive wine trail, a swimming pool with a water slide, mini-golf, beach volleyball, tennis courts, an artificial ice rink, riding and archery.
Cyclists are particularly well catered for, with 416 kilometres of themed cycle paths. This is boundless cycling pleasure because it is possible to explore not only the region around Retz on the Austrian side but also the Czech side.
